Our Team

Duncan Beard | Store Manager

Duncan’s passion and expertise in the cycling and skiing industries come from his nearly two decades of experience at the shop and a lifetime of experience as an athlete.

He can speak to the finer points in both cycling and skiing, having raced mountain bikes, cyclocross, track, and road. He also enjoys backcountry skiing, classic skiing, and skate skiing to varying degrees. Not only is Duncan an avid and advanced cyclist, but he also has a technical background working as a bike mechanic for  H&R Block Cycling Team at the Canadian Road Championships and the Tour of Alberta 2016.

Though he’s well known in the community for his interest and expertise in our key sports, he’s best known in the shop for being approachable and genuine. Duncan has a drive, knowledge, and passion for the outdoors that customers appreciate and colleagues admire. He is always happy to talk shop with anyone, from hobbyists to expert athletes.

Patrick Scott | Sales & Community Outreach Coordinator

It’s thanks to Patrick that Fresh Air Experience is a familiar crew among Ottawa’s cycling and skiing communities. Patrick spearheads the shop’s communications and, most importantly, is the liaison for the many clubs and events the shop sponsors, supports, and partners with each year. Since starting at the shop in 2016, promoting and supporting the SJAM Winter Trail has been one of Patrick’s primary focuses, as the trail has transformed from near nonexistent to a vibrant community feature.

Making cross-country skiing and winter sports more accessible to the Ottawa population is paramount to Patrick. He’s shown his enthusiasm for getting people into skiing through his involvement with the Mooney’s Bay Ski School, the Ottawa Outdoors Club, and Kanata Nordic, occasionally coaching cross-country skiing and helping run waxing clinics. During the summer months, Patrick offers bike maintenance clinics and is often involved with Cycle Fit Chicks and the Ottawa Bicycle Club.

Patrick loves to be sidekick in Groomer Dave's video blogs.

Maggie Fairholm | Sales & Soft Goods Buyer

Maggie has been with Fresh Air Experience since 2010, starting as a sales associate while she was in school, and she’s been a familiar face at the shop ever since. Having been with the store for nearly a decade, she knows the ins and outs of the products and now oversees soft goods purchasing. There’s more gear to the sports than just the ski and bike itself, and Maggie has worked with amateurs and racers alike to find the best products for customers.

Maggie first became interested in mountain biking through her work at Fresh Air Experience and decided to get involved recreationally. Over the years, she became enamoured with the sport, has become an active part of the riding community, and obtained her level 1 instructor’s certificate. She is a volunteer board member with the Ottawa Mountain Bike Association and helps run the OMBA Chick’s women’s rides.

Jon Digney | Owner

Jon came to own the shop after an amicable succession bid for Ottawa’s Fresh Air Experience from the founding owner in 2012. Jon’s accounting background paired with a passion for sport mirrored that of the previous owner, making the succession a natural fit that positioned Fresh Air Experience for future decades of success. Jon wasted no time racing into revitalizing the store and getting active in the community. In the early days, you could often find him on the floor doing hands-on renovations with the re-energized staff. Nowadays, he’s behind the scenes supporting the front-end staff and volunteering with local sporting clubs.

Jon has been committed to streamlining the brands and products offered at the shop, making sure customers’ sporting needs are front and centre. He loves working with a passionate and knowledgeable team that is excited to be a part of the skiing and cycling communities. Helping clubs and their members succeed, while also watching staff and customers achieve their personal and professional goals has been an enormous reward over the years.

Jon has three boys who love to keep him busy outside of working hours. Two of them love to ride bicycles with him. One of them loves Elvis.
